New Year’s Eve is just around the corner. You booked your flights and hotel in Seminyak many months ago, and now you’re ready to consolidate your holiday plans. We offer some useful tips to maximize your peak season vacation experience and enjoy New Year’s Eve in our chic little backyard – Seminyak.
1. Pick accommodation not too far from Seminyak
Just in case you’ve booked a hotel somewhere like Kuta or Canggu, and you hadn’t read our guide beforehand, we’ll give you a picture of reality. Yes, these two districts are only 20 minutes away from Seminyak but, on New Year’s Eve, traffic can be a nightmare and you’ll waste about an hour or more stuck in traffic with motorbikes and trumpet-blowing pedestrians passing you by.
2. Motorbikes are your friend + arrive early
If tip #1 doesn’t apply to you, that’s great. Our advice is to rent a motorbike (you can find rentals everywhere) and arrive early at any venue you’re planning to attend before midnight.
3. For energetic (but not too crazy) New Year parties, go to beach clubs
Beach clubs in Seminyak are usually not filled with rowdy tourists like at other beaches in southwestern Bali. You can expect a mature, easy-going party with pleasant beats and energetic dance music, and a healthy dose of liquor and cocktail at the bar. We recommend music venues such as Mrs Sippy, for house music and pool party lovers, or Ku De Ta, if you’d like to end the year with lights, color, dance, and fine dining. Beach clubs typically compete for the loudest bang after New Year’s Countdown.
4. For purely fine dining, go to these restaurants
Speaking of fine dining, there are a couple of highly reputable restaurants in Seminyak. Merah Putih is a luxurious fine dining restaurant that serves something other restaurants in its grade rarely serve – Indonesian food. Yes, you may find Indonesian food practically everywhere in the country, at street-food prices, but those who truly understand culinary art understand that it’s not just ingredients that establish the meal price. It’s how it is treated, presented, and artfully crafted. Métis is for the French-Mediterranean food connoisseurs. They don’t just serve cuisines that look and taste like native dishes from across the world, they make it with style. You could take Métis to Europe and it would become the European equivalent of Merah Putih. Regardless, end the year with good food, good wine, and much laughter in these restaurants.
5. Fireworks at the beach are always free to watch
Light up your own fireworks at Petitenget beach, which is only a hop away from The Colony Hotel. Similarly, you can enjoy continuous shoreline. Walk down towards Legian beach and enjoy its equally pleasant vibe, and finally reach the loud and hard-partying Kuta dwellers. Enjoying these things is free, but if you want to book a comfy couch and table, you can always find a friendly local to offer you a spot. You can order a few bottles of beer from them too.
When you light fireworks, please consider carefully where you are lighting them up and in which direction they may go. Please be extremely cautious.
It’s not hard to end the year with good hope and cheer in Seminyak. There are so many places to visit that it’ll take many more New Year’s Eve to get bored in Seminyak. If you have not already booked a room at The Colony Hotel, now is your chance. Enjoy colonial-style seaside accommodation with flexible choices of rooms, suites and deluxe offers.
