Whether you’re traveling on a shoe-string or simply looking to sample local favorites, warung food is the way to go. There are numerous Indonesian restaurants in Seminyak, however most concur that warungs boast a more traditional feel to them, which is all part of the full experience.

Opting for dinner in an authentic warung doesn’t necessarily mean you have to put your health at risk. Here is a list of warungs in and around Seminyak that aren’t likely to give you a case of Bali belly the next morning.

Warung Eny is a small roadside restaurant on Jalan Petitenget, offering traditional warung food prepared by owner/chef Eny and her family. Its menu ranges from assorted Balinese satays and fried and grilled meats, to vegetable salads and chili sauces – a pairing that you can see displayed out front. What makes this warung special is that visitors can learn how to cook the dishes in its open kitchen!

Warung Ocha

This busy café is located on a buzzing intersection and is a great meeting spot for lunch in Seminyak. Popular among their breakfast clientele, Warung Ocha offers good standard food and an all-day service. Its broad menu includes the usual Indonesian dishes of nasi campur, as well as Western options like pizza and salad.

Warung Cahaya

Even locals call this one a hidden gem. Nestled in a quiet little backstreet, Warung Cahaya is loved for its simple crispy pork dish topped with Bali’s iconic sambal matah and served with white rice. The dish is popular among those with a more daring palate, but if you prefer, you can ask for less spice, according to your preference.

Warung Nia

If you’re looking for pork ribs, head over to Warung Nia. Perfect for lunch or dinner, the menu is extremely affordable and delicious. It’s an old style warung serving traditional Balinese fare, consisting of pork dishes, satays, curries and rice meals.

Ithaka Warung
